Candace Owens Slams AOC For Using Grandma To ‘Score Political Points’, Matt Walsh Starts ‘#HelpAbuela’ GoFundMe

Conservative author and commentator, Candace Owens recently blasted progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York) for using her grandmother to “score political points” after the self-proclaimed Democratic socialist posted photos of her grandmother’s home in harrowing conditions.

Matt Walsh who works with the Daily Wire also started a GoFundMe page in response, “One cannot be certain of the cost to repair grandma’s house, but surely most of the work could be completed for the price of AOC’s shiny Tesla Model 3.”

“I came from nothing and am a first generation daughter in my family,” Owens told Ocasio-Cortez. “I would never allow my grandfather to live in squalor and then post it on the internet to score political points.”

The conservative firebrand — and now Daily Wire host — also called out the well-paid New York lawmaker to help her grandmother instead, and to stop publicizing her plight in storm-ravaged Puerto Rico to gain sympathy.

“Stop being disgusting and get your grandmother a better home,” Owens said.

The public bickering came after AOC posted a tweet on Wednesday showing her grandma’s dilapidated Puerto Rico home as she effectively blamed former President Donald Trump for her condition.

“Just over a week ago, my abuela fell ill,” Ocasio-Cortez began in her social media post. “I went to Puerto Rico to see her- my 1st time in a year + bc of COVID.”

“This is her home,” the far-left congresswoman added, posting a photo of a house in poor condition — showing a damaged roof, scant furniture and no other fixtures.

“Hurricane María relief hasn’t arrived. Trump blocked relief $ for PR. People are being forced to flee ancestral homes, & developers are taking them,” AOC claimed.

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh lashed at AOC: “Shameful that you live in luxury while allowing your own grandmother to suffer in these squalid conditions.”

AOC said Walsh’ post was meant to call “attention” to “systemic injustices” instead.

To this, Owens dinged AOC saying that she herself was a first generation daughter.

“You rake in corrupt millions. Stop being disgusting and get your grandmother a better home.”

AOC went on to say that the relief holdup was “systemic,” and that the former Republican administration had a “major role, but it wasn’t just them.”

“Much of it can be traced to La Junta, aka the Wall Street-connected fiscal control board that the US gave power to over the island,” she claimed.

Social media users slam AOC

Nonetheless, social media users continued flooding the lawmaker with criticism.

“AOC: My grandma can’t fix her ceiling without a Washington bailout,” one user wrote, alluding to Ocasio-Cortez’ post.

“Hi AOC — Maybe you can sell your Tesla and help out grandma with the $500 it would take to fix that ceiling?”

Another one commented: “Doesn’t this actress make six figures a year on the taxpayer dole? Can’t she send some money?”

“She’s letting her Abuela live in squalor in Puerto Rico?” another said.

“Honey, you drive a Tesla and have two apartments,” Florida GOP congressional candidate Lavern Spicer said. “If your grandmother is living poor that’s because you don’t help her out. I’m surprised that a socialist wouldn’t redistribute that wealth to their grandma. Sad!”

In its report, The Daily Wire wrote that “AOC has become a cash cow for the Democrats and a top fundraiser, raking in millions of dollars for election efforts.”

The Hill highlighted last year that the far-left lawmaker also has a “staff size more typical of a top-tier Senate campaign than a congresswoman seeking reelection in a safely progressive seat.”

While her personal net worth is unclear, multiple reports noted that AOC is worth far less than $1 million —  due to her student loan debt. She makes at least upwards of $170,000 annually.

Nonetheless, highlighting her current financial standing, Ian Hawthorn further slammed AOC’s ironic actions for her consistent push for socialist policies.

“By all available metrics, Ocasio-Cortez is perfectly able to financially support her beloved “abuela,” if just to make basic structural repairs to her cramped living area,” he said.

“However, the notion of taking individual responsibility for one’s own family and community is totally antithetical to Ocasio-Cortez’s ideology. For radical progressives like Ocasio-Cortez, even problems they themselves could solve with one PayPal transfer are the responsibility of others — the faceless “collective” of society, shrouded in the constrictive veil of government control,” he added.

“Why take personal responsibility for those around you when you can demand that ‘the government’ step in? Why dip into your own pocket when you can expect ‘the rich’ to foot the bill?” Hawthorn added.

Meanwhile, in response to AOC, Walsh retorted: “You used your grandmother’s suffering to score political points. You’re the one who publicized this.”

“So I am entitled now to ask why you haven’t bothered to fix your grandmother’s collapsing roof or buy her some new furniture? Why are you waiting for the government to do it?”’

The Washington Free Beacon reported earlier that the New York congresswoman owns a Tesla Model 3 Long Range, which retails for at least $46,000 up to $59,000. Multiple publications also noted that AOC resides in a DC apartment where rent is from $2,000 for a studio and over $5,000 for a three-bedroom.

Daily Wire Paying Into GoFundMe Account

Matt Walsh posted to Twitter, “As you’ve heard, @AOC’s abuela is living in a dilapidated home that was ravaged by Hurricane Maria. AOC is unable to help her own grandma for whatever reason, so I have set up this Go Fund Me campaign to save her home. Please give if you can. #HelpAbuela
