Trump Puts Biden On Notice, Floats Running For Speaker of House To Impeach Joe
Former President Trump on Friday sparked another round of speculation about his political future by suggesting that he may run for the House in 2022 to try to become Speaker of so he could launch an investigation of Joe Biden so he can impeach him.
When asked about the remote possibility, Trump said it was an interesting proposition. Trump would not have to run for the House to be named Speaker as the rules do not preclude someone not elected to Congress getting the speaker’s gavel. Radio host Wayne Allyn Root brought up the subject to Trump yesterday Steve Bannon, a former senior adviser to Trump pushed the idea. “We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as Speaker will be to impeach Joe Biden,” Bannon said.
“That’s so interesting,” Trump said. “Yeah, you know it’s very interesting,” Trump added, before saying others wanted him to run for Senate.
“But you know what, your idea might be better. It’s very interesting.”
Fox News’ Jason Chaffetz said: “Under the Constitution, you don’t need to be a member of Congress to be elected the Speaker of the House.
“So put Donald Trump in as Speaker of the House and he can go out and investigate everybody and he can impeach everybody.
“It would make for great TV”
From Business Insider:
To become Speaker of the House, Trump would not be required to win a congressional seat. The Constitution does not require the speaker to be an incumbent member of the House of Representatives, although every speaker thus far has been.
He would, however, have to flip the House of Representatives and win the support of Republican lawmakers.
Experts say Trump taking on this role is theoretically possible but “not plausible,” according to Politifact.
Trump is also said to be mulling another run for president. He told associates that he will run again in 2024 if he is healthy enough, Insider reported in late May.
Former President Donald Trump said he was intrigued by the idea of leading opposition to President Joe Biden by running for Congress and becoming speaker of the House, an idea that is gaining currency among his supporters.
The strategy was floated as Trump prepares for his return to the political spotlight at the North Carolina Republican convention on Saturday night.
It is billed as the next phase in his political career, with the resumption of rallies and speeches – as well as a long teased return to social media.
During a Friday interview, far-right radio host Wayne Allyn Root took up the idea that Trump did not have to wait for the 2024 presidential election to regain power. Instead, he could run in next year’s midterms as part of a Republican wave that retakes the House of Representatives.
‘Then you become the speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden,’ said Root.
‘You’ll wipe him out for this last two years.’
